Piri Piri Grill, Bradford

Portuguese cuisine was the strap line and it looked quite attractive. Various dishes - beef, chicken, Lamb, Prawn etc either with the Priri piri sauce or the family's own 'secret' sauce that many have tried to imitate but none has succeeded. Various accompaniments such as spicy rice, fried, salad. Lots of new words I hadn't heard before as I haven't been to Portugal (only Bradford). So we tried it. Boss said it was halal as they were muslims of portuguese ancestry.

Mixed starter was potatoes and onion rings with a PP dip. Could have come out of packets and pleasant enough but no cigarillo. Main course of Jumbo mixed grill with secret sauce was a huge platter of mixed grill with many fries and a litre or two of the secret sauce. It was hot. Far too many chili seeds in it and not a lot of sublety. Salad was pleasantly piquant but the whole impression was that surely the portuguese can't eat piri piri or secret sauce with everything can they cos all this restaurant served was piri piri or secret sauce. Bit like finding a chippy in Lisbon and making the assumption that all Brits eat is fish 'n' chips or now and again sausage 'n' chips. I hope one day to eat real portuguese food. Maybe we'll have to actually go to er... Portugal one day.
