Molly's Yard, Belfast

The worst thing about this was the directions. Found it on the web and stuck the address into my satnav. Without fail it took me to the road they said was their address. But it wasn't. I walked up and down it in the dark with no sign of a restaurant. They were one road away. Even when I found it there was an air of mystery. It was dark, the courtyard was deserted and there were no signs of any sort. I walked to the end of the yard and there to the left behind a black solid door I discovered a real gem.

Starter of Irish duck leg on beetroot and ginger relish with pine nut and basil tapenade accompanied by rocket with subtle dressing. Very good stuff. A slice of bread and butter and a small glass of chilean merlot made a brilliant opener.

To follow was slow-roasted, spiced pork belly with Merguez sausage, lentil and celeriac casserole. Another minor chilean and another brilliant dish. The cross cut crackling was crisp (and to be fair a bit was black) but the whole dish was substantial and very satisfying.

So satisfying I was full up and couldn't take a dessert. Definitely worth finding. It's on Botanic Avenue not College Green Mews.
