Prashads, Bradford

As featured in Gordon Ramsey's TV show.... (whoever the f**k he is)

Looked it all up on the net before we went but ended up going down a road I'd driven many many times before but never noticed Prashads. No car parking at all so we parked and walked. We'd reserved a table beforehand and had been lucky to ring up seconds after a cancellation otherwise it could have been weeks of waiting. It was worth waiting for however.

First off it was a vegetarian restaurant and I was wondering if I'd miss meat. I didn't. I was also wondering if the Ramsey programme was a load of s**te but all these fears were set to rest. The food was extra-ordinarily good. Different shaped poppadoms and 4 pickles- I know it doesn't sound that different but it set the tone. Mixed starter of various items. The waiter did tell us what it was but it was so different to normal (bhaji, samosa etc) that we didn't take it all in. But it was all gorgeous.

For mains my partner took the Ramsey special - Vegetable koftas, jeera fried rice, buthuras. It was £15 compared to my mains of £8-95 and wasn't worth it. Nice but trading on his name. I had okra curry and it was sublime- tasty, tangy and fresh cooked. 2 chapatis which they called rotlis and it was very good stuff.

Desserts and we were offered a menu with the cheapest dish at £4-95. (The take out menu has quite a few at £2 or £3) but we went for carrot Halva plus ice cream (Gajar) and I had mango flavoured curd (Shikand) which was magnificently tasty and intense.

I fell for the water trick - Would you like some water? Still or sparkling? My partner asked for tap water and wasn't charged. I was but the bill just showed a tick against Water. No idea how much it was.

Overall it was £49. I know we could have done the Karachi for £15 but the difference was significant. I think they 're falling into some 'professional' restaurant tricks but despite that the taste was amazing and I didn't miss meat at all. I will go back but I'll know now how to keep the bill a touch lower.

Molly's Yard, Belfast

The worst thing about this was the directions. Found it on the web and stuck the address into my satnav. Without fail it took me to the road they said was their address. But it wasn't. I walked up and down it in the dark with no sign of a restaurant. They were one road away. Even when I found it there was an air of mystery. It was dark, the courtyard was deserted and there were no signs of any sort. I walked to the end of the yard and there to the left behind a black solid door I discovered a real gem.

Starter of Irish duck leg on beetroot and ginger relish with pine nut and basil tapenade accompanied by rocket with subtle dressing. Very good stuff. A slice of bread and butter and a small glass of chilean merlot made a brilliant opener.

To follow was slow-roasted, spiced pork belly with Merguez sausage, lentil and celeriac casserole. Another minor chilean and another brilliant dish. The cross cut crackling was crisp (and to be fair a bit was black) but the whole dish was substantial and very satisfying.

So satisfying I was full up and couldn't take a dessert. Definitely worth finding. It's on Botanic Avenue not College Green Mews.
