Marks & Spencers, Pudsey

I know the title seems like an oxymoron but stay with me for a while. The biggest M&S this side of Cleckheaton so a good place to spend a lazy day buying some new clothes. Unfortunately from the entire range I found nothing at all I wanted to buy. Seeking comfort we went into the Revive cafe for a light lunch.

Service was slow. Not just slow but it seemed like I was served by little miss slow on a slow day (with extra slow on the side). I asked for a slice of carrot cake and was provided with a Capucchino cake. When I questioned this I was told I'd got my order wrong. Then Little Miss Slow tried hawking the capuchino cake down the line of twenty bored but waiting patiently people waiting for their fast food. I presume that once cut from the main cake it only has a half life of 10 minutes before it self destructs.

I also bought chicken caesar wrap. (chunky chargrilled chicken in a creamy caesar salad dressing accompanied by sweetcure bacon and lettuce in a wholemeal tortilla wrap). Initially there was no obvious way to extricate the main course from the cardboard sleeve. Eventually I peeled it away leaving half the wrap still attached to the cardboard. It was pretty ugly (that's 2 oxymorons in one review). Carrot cake was good, tea OK, coffee OK but the whole experience was rather depressing. I could have driven to the Kashmir in Bradford; had chicken & Mushroom masala twice with 3 chapatis and a side salad and driven back and still beaten M&S on price, speed, quantity, quality and ambience (er... there isn't anything else is there?)

PS £10-30. 13 minutes from picking up the tray to getting the drinks. No wonder the public are staying away in droves.

Kings Cross Premier Travel Inn

Very convenient. You could put your pyjamas on in Leeds (and your dressing gown of course) and take a quick 2 hour train to arrive at the Travel Inn ready for sleep. They do food and they do Chicken Caesar salad but it was shock horror cold! Call me new fashioned but I like to know my chicken has at least undergone chemo to remove its salmonella.

Worse I drank a pint of beer. Not your traditional pint of Tetleys at £1-80 with a foamin' head but a glass of Hoegaarden. Nice enough drink although I had to step in swiftly to avoid the slice of lime being added to the glass - It's beer innit? who puts lime in beer? Is this life on Mars? - The major shock was the price - £3-58. In Belgium you can drink it for an evening for this price...
Yes I did drink lager and lime when I was student but that was Roses Lime cordial not an actual fruit.
