Caesar Salad

Priory Marina, Bedford

One of the beefeater chain. Caesar Salad was reasonable but uninspired 5/10. The mexican steak with hot chilli glaze, jalapeno, nachos and sour cream and salsa was formulaic and ordinary. In fact it was worse than that. Apart from the steak which was well cooked despite claims of medium the rest of the meal came out of a jar/tin/packet and was cold. The hot chilli glaze was either not present or totally lacking in flavour. 4/10

Strangely when I retired to the next door pub for a pint and a cigar they wouldn't serve me a single cigar but requested I bought an entire pack. Hah!

Bradleys, Huddersfield

Quality English cooking. No Caesar but pretty good warm bacon & mushroom salad followed by wild boar sausages. The whole shebang was £14-95 for 3 courses but only £16-95 with a half of house red. House red was 12% french vin de table which was bit naff but for £2 you can't grumble. Must go again. Really good quality food. 9/10

Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast

Chicken Caesar Salad. 4 leaves of romaine tastefully arranged and a mass of iceberg hidden underneath a hefty piece of grilled chicken. Grated parmesan but overall a tasty snack. Couldn’t place the dressing – might have been home made… 8/10

Aldo's Cleckheaton

No Caesar Salad again. However the restaurant has always been one of my favourites as most of the food is very good. No bookings taken but it always seems to be full. Spicy pizza very nice, antipasto italiano very comprehensive. Multi lingual waiters who often sing while they're waiting. (probably attended a course for it). Good stuff. If they did do caesar salad it would probably be from first principles at your table. 9/10

Watching Saturday Kitchen

Out of the blue Delia makes a caesar salad. And it looks ok. Follows the standard basic recipe

1 large free-range egg
1 large garlic clove, peeled and crushed
half tsp english mustard powder
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
4-5 anchovy fillets
3 tbsp olive oil

Mix all in a food processor. Add to lettuce, add croutons, add parmesan. Seems easy. Crucially she made her croutons with a bit more care than I do. She added garlic, grated parmesan to them before cooking them. She also seemed to get the order of assembling the salad right. So many people add dressing last and make the croutons soggy. Greaves House, Lancaster

Amazing. The salad has lashings of red onions. No problem. I like red onions. Other ingredients as usual. Salad dressing very miserly, good parmesan shavings, standard croutons but the price is a whopping £5-99. Only 4/10 Steak and chips 6/10. Cheapish house wine. Pleasant enough but no cigar.
