The Vine, Highgate

After a couple of pints in the Southampton Arms me and eldest son went to the Vine. Very nice too. A little dark but the waitress told us it was ambience.

Food was however very nice. Another London Pub doing it right. The Kitchen right in the middle and lovely distressed furniture.

As for drink we started with beer and they had a good selection. Starters of billed sardines with spicy potato cake and cherry tomatoes plus French blue cheese salad with pear and walnuts and rocket. Lovely stuff.

For mains we both had Lamb Chump on puy lentils with broccoli. Absolutely gorgeous. Shame it was so dark.

When the bill arrived I was expecting an argument as they did the very silly thing of adding an optional service charge of 10%. It was on the menu but when I asked for it to be removed they did so quite quickly without any fuss. Why bother adding it....

I let a tip anyway as it was a good meal served well in nice and dark ambience. Why bother with an optional charge?
