Caesar Salad

Byblos, Belfast

The only lebanese restaurant in Belfast... had an intriguing strapline of "a little bit of Beirut in Belfast"

No licence so the offy over the road was very handy.

Chicken Tawouk promised chicken and mushroom marinaded in lebanese spices with salad but turned out to be 3 lumps of chicken and 2 mushrooms on a stick. No spices in evidence. Bland and not much else. No salad dressing on 2 rings of tomato and some shredded iceberg.

Beef Shawarma to follow. Lots of shredded beef (taken from one of those revolving vertical spits) in a yoghurt sauce with traces of mint and chilli but still no salad dressing. The whole served on a lebanese bread which looked like a white flour chapati. Pleasant and filling but no real zest or tang. Commented to the chef and apparently lebanese don't dress salads and don't go for strong spices. £12-50 for two courses so it was a good value meal but left me not wanting to know more about lebanese cuisine.
