Strangmore, Dungannon

Lovely small guest house. Real log fire in small lounge, huge bed in big bedroom.

Looked like a quality chef from the blurb and a whimsical menu. Turned up at 7-29 for a 7-30 reservation and was asked to wait in the lounge... Ten minutes later was allowed into the dining room where duck with hoisin sauce and a salad appeared every quickly. Followed by Tyrone signature dish - medallions of local pork served on bed of mash with baked red onions and a cider, cream and mustard dressing. Very impressive. A simple VDP merlot and it all made a very impressive meal.

Only problem was it was dark. No candle on table and dificult to actually see what I was eating. Owner asked how the meal was and I said it was a tad dark and she turned up the lights adding "we thought it was more romantic....". The single business men and a party of women near the window probably weren't doing romantic that evening.

Breakfast was OK. It's usually the sausages that tell the story and it was a short story that morning. I remember seeing a Hotel Inspector tv show where a restaurateur found out he could buy tasty local sausages cheaper that bulk buying cardboard sausages and was surprised when the guests all started complimenting him on his breakfasts.

Hope to go back. There were some intriguing main courses still to try.
