Hulme Market

Stuck in Moss Side in the middle of a training day with no lunch provided. Fortunately there was an enormous range of interesting food outlets. I chose Granny Fees special Nan. Only £3-50 and as good as a meal (it says here). Keema, Onions, special Chicken, Cheese, jalapenos, chilis and fresh coriander and it was lipsmackingly special. Large and floppy (I wish....) and liable to spill into the footwell or run down my tie but it was worth every penny. Made to order and achingly fresh. A colleague had 2 samosas and felt let down.

Aakash, Cleckheaton

The biggest Indian Restaurant in the world and you know what it might be true! It's certainly bigger than Cleckheaton Town Hall (but...).

An upstairs and a downstairs with a vast atrium in the middle. Room for hundreds of diners and no menu at all. Instead you pay one price for as much as you can eat. At the back of the auditorium are 15 silver globes on a long table, each one filled with a selection of starters, main courses and sundries. Diners take a plate, fill it, return to their table, eat it and return to the 15 silver globes as often as they wish.

I had pakoras, kebabs, two types of raita, fish masala, chilli dip, poppadoms, bhajis and two varieties of salad for starter. The main course was a range of all types of meats and veg in different sauces - the most surprising being a vegetable keema which was the hottest dish on offer.

For dessert there was ras malai, gulab jaman and fuit salads and more. All this type some classy bollywood dancers were whirling around to a thumping bass rhythm.

As we left no-one asked for money. We had to find some-one to pay. Eventually I was taken for £20. What value. They also do functions...
