Ocean Foret, Les Mathes
This was good. Next to the only roundabout in the town it's a strange looking building but the quality of the food is excellent. Very refreshing to hear someone ask Est-ce qu'il y a quelqu'un ici qui parle un peu de francais? Because the menu was in french with no translation.
Friend ordered a gin and tonic as apero and they failed to add the tonic so it was a neat gin. She didn't mind too much but they put it right quickly.
First of all they do a buffet starter. A fantastic range of about 30 salads, meats, tapas with no limit on what you eat. I had a more expensive menu so my starter was wild mushrooms, scallops and salad. Most diners at our table had venison steak, beautifully done, with more mushrooms and delicate potatoes. A fine bottle of bordeaux, a very relaxed atmosphere and halfway through the meal I realised that an old friend I hadn't seen for 8 months was sitting at the other end of the resto.
