The Old School House Inn, Comber near Belfast

Arrived the night of 7th September when yermen were playing yer millionaires (and yermen won.) No room at the Holiday Inn (or any other city centre hotel) so ended up in this place. Restaurant closed at 9pm but when I asked for steak and chips at 10pm Avril fired up her kitchen and produced a very tasty steak with many accompaniments. Asked for medium rare and got it. Wine £13-95 but good stuff. Very good response to a weary traveller. Months ago didn't think the UK could do this but in Comber they obviously can. Maybe not across the water (aka mainland UK).

Following night was just as good. Scallops and Noisettes de lamb. Similar wine. All in all a very good culinary experience. Disappointed when the bill was presented and my 'on demand' steak on wednesday night was considered a 2 course evening meal and charged at £19-95 plus £6 supplement for the steak. But it was the second best of the year so far, but the most expensive.

Good theme for the hotel. Would definitely go back to look at the area better.
